Information about our events
Who are our events for?
Our events are for all people aged 16 and over. If you are under 16 and looking to access LGBT+ events and groups, we recommend our friends at LGBT Youth Scotland.
We welcome the entire diversity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community including non-binary, queer, intersex, asexual people and all identities under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella. This also includes people exploring their sexual orientation and/or gender identity and those who do not use labels for either.
Where do we host our events?
We offer a mix of in-person and online events. Our in-person events are delivered in Edinburgh and Glasgow, whilst our online events are hosted on the video conference app Zoom. You don’t need a Zoom account to join a Zoom meeting. All you need is the meeting link and passcode which we provide in emails after you register for an event. It is similar to other video apps such as Skype or Microsoft Teams. If you are using Zoom for the first time, here are some video tutorials to get you started.
COVID-19
As of 18th April, all COVID rules and restrictions were lifted in Scotland. However, the virus has not gone away. The Scottish Government is now promoting the use of “COVID sense” to inform how best to protect people. With that in mind, we are continuing to have COVID safety measures in place to reduce risk.
Before an event
- If you or anyone you live with is feeling unwell, we would ask that you do not attend the event. The Scottish Government guidance is to stay at home and isolate until you feel better.
- If you are using public transport to come to the event, you may wish to consider wearing a face covering.
During the event
- Face coverings are optional and no longer mandatory to wear at our community bases (Duncan Place and Adelphi Centre). We will continue to ensure good ventilation is achieved in all the indoor spaces we deliver events from.
- Use the hand sanitiser and antibacterial wipes on offer. We will serve drinks and provide any catering in sealed packaging.
- Be mindful of personal space and level of comforts around social distancing. If you feel more comfortable with room around you, you can use the Distance Aware scheme from the Scottish Government to communicate this in a social setting. The scheme provides free badges and lanyards that you can pick in libraries across Scotland and most ASDA shops, or you can order them online. We plan to have badges and lanyards available at our events.
How to join our events?
Step by step instructions on how to join will be included on each of our event listings.
For most of our events, we ask that you register through Eventbrite which is our central booking system. RSVP on our social media channels will not secure you a space, please use the Eventbrite booking links provided.
If registration isn’t required, we will state that drop-ins are welcome.
For online events, we will either ask you to:
- Register through Eventbrite or Zoom to get the access details.
- Contact the event organiser through the contact details provided.
Safe space commitment
We ask anyone at our events to observe a safe space commitment. A safe space is a space in which everyone feels welcome, respected and comfortable with being who they are. This includes community members, volunteers, community group leaders and staff. LGBT Health and Wellbeing staff, volunteers and community group leaders will always work actively to create a safe space and rely upon community members’ involvement with this.

Do our events have a cost?
Unless otherwise stated, all our events are free to attend.
Accessibility
We are aware that often there are barriers for people accessing services. As an organisation, we are committed to looking at ways we can meet any access requirements that you may have. In the past, we have helped people access our online events through the provision of BSL interpretation, live captions, quiet breakout rooms, etc… If you have any specific access needs, you will have the opportunity to let us know when you book for an event. Don’t hesitate to contact organisers whose contact details will be provided in all event listings to discuss how we can support you to access the event you are interested in. At the end of each event, you will have the opportunity to provide feedback through an evaluation form and we encourage you to use this avenue to let us know what might have been challenging for you and what we could improve.
Where to find out about our events?
You can keep up to date with our events through different channels:
- Our website ‘What’s On’ calendar page
- Our Facebook, Meetup (Edinburgh or Glasgow group) and Instagram profiles
- Our newsletters
Your privacy
When you register through Eventbrite or Zoom, we will receive a limited amount of information about you (name, email and postcode and access requirements). If your registration includes a physical element (material packs, etc…), we will also receive the shipping address you choose to provide.
After an event, LGBT Health and Wellbeing will email you a feedback form. We will not use your information for any other purposes. Providing feedback is optional. Please see the privacy policy on our website for more details.
If you have registered on a waiting list via an Eventbrite link, we will only contact you if a space becomes available or to let you know of future dates if we host the same event again.
