LGBT Helpline Scotland

We provide information and emotional support to the entire diversity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community across Scotland, including queer, intersex, asexual people and all identities under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella.

This includes the families, friends and supporters of LGBT people, and health and social care professionals working with LGBT people.

We are also here to support those questioning or wanting to discuss their sexuality or gender identity.

We can support you with all kinds of issues and if the current pandemic is affecting you, we are here to offer you a friendly ear as often and as regularly as you need it.

Deaf or hard of hearing?

Are you Deaf BSL user or hard of hearing, and do you want to talk to us about something? LGBT Helpline Scotland is here for you. You can talk to us through BSL Contact Scotland or online messenger. More information is provided in the video below.

Why call the helpline?

You can bring anything to the call. We have access to a wide range of information on, for example, sexual health, support organisations, social groups, the commercial ‘scene’ and where to get support with any issues you have. We are also here for you if you just want to talk. It can be comforting to explore your feelings, get something off your chest or just to know that you are not alone. We can discuss a range of issues with you including sexuality, coming out, gender identity, relationships and sexual and emotional wellbeing. We understand that it can be difficult to pick up the phone, but please remember that your call is confidential and we are not here to judge you or tell you what to do; simply to support you in whatever you are going through.

Our helpline is also here for partners, family and friends of LGBT+ people, or others such as professionals who are supporting people with issues around their sexual orientation or gender identity.

What will the call cost?

Calls to this number will cost you the same as calls to local landline numbers and they are included in any special call allowances or packages you may have either on a mobile or landline.

Who will answer your call?

The helpline is supported by experienced, trained, friendly, non-judgemental staff and volunteers who are happy to listen. Many of us identity as LGBT ourselves, and we are all experienced in supporting LGBT people with a wide range of issues.
