Information sessions

Monthly information sessions for LGBT asylum seekers and refugees on topics spanning across legal support with asylum cases, health and practical support for your everyday life.

These sessions will take place every 2nd Wednesday of the month online through our LGBT Refugee Group. The resources used during those sessions will be shared with participants and made available online. Topics will include:

Legal issues

  • asylum claims
  • gathering good evidence and support letters
  • writing a good statement
  • legal aid and good lawyers
  • use of country information by the Home Office
  • immigration case law

Health and wellbeing

  • relaxation and self-care
  • mental health support (to explore what we are likely to struggle with, what it feels like, what makes things worse or better and how we can take of ourselves)
  • health services and HIV tests
  • drug and alcohol use support

Life practical support

  • how and where to access food and digital support
  • access to education
  • volunteering
  • applying for jobs
  • other organisations supporting asylum seekers and refugees
