Older people support

Welcoming LGBT+ people aged 50 and over

Older LGBT+ people have lived through much less tolerant times with lasting impacts on their confidence, self-esteem and wellbeing. Nowadays, older LGBT+ people often have diminished support networks resulting in an increased sense of vulnerability and anxiety about ageing.

LGBT Age works with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) people aged 50 and over in Greater Glasgow and the Lothians to shape support services and resources for older LGBT+ people including social events, community activism, resources and volunteering opportunities.

Individual support

In response to the pandemic, we now offer a telefriending service to older LGBT+ people across Scotland who are isolated. In addition, if you are looking for emotional support or information in your local area, you can reach out to our LGBT Helpline Scotland.

Social support

We host monthly Coffee Posse meetups both online and in-person in Edinburgh and Glasgow. For more meetups, we invite you to browse LGBT Health and Wellbeing’s entire programme of online events on our What’s On page or you can keep up to date with all upcoming events by signing up to our bi-weekly newsletter Village Voices.

Virtual Hug

A monthly check-in email to keep you connected to a community of older LGBT+ people across Scotland. We include updates about our support services as well as support you can find elsewhere. We also feature creative outputs from community members, tops tips on how to look after yourself and anything to help you feel connected from afar.
