Return to the Closet?

Older LGBT people have lived through much less tolerant times. Many care homes report that they have no LGBTQI+ residents, when it is becoming apparent that many older people are hiding their sexuality or gender identity for fear of discrimination.

In November 2018, Luminate and LGBT Health and Wellbeing invited older people from the LGBTQI+ community in Scotland to discuss and create a film exploring aging and issues of care. They have been working with film artist Glenda Rome and together they have explored what it means to be older, to be part of the community and what ‘care’ means to them and how they make a film about it. This is their film about their needs and aspirations and visions of care, and what their future looks like for them.

This film was created as part of a collaboration between Luminate, LGBT Health and Wellbeing, artist Glenda Rome and participating community filmmakers. Luminate commissioned the film with support from LGBT Health and Wellbeing.
